A leading contractor in the rail, structures and heavy civils sector is seeking an experienced Senior Estimator to join its preconstruction team based in Canning Town. The business delivers complex, technically demanding rail and civil engineering projects with values ranging from £20m to £150m, largely across London and the Southeast. 

This is a senior appointment suited to an estimator with strong rail infrastructure experience who can take ownership of highvalue tenders and play a key role in shaping bid strategy and commercial outcomes. 

Role & Responsibilities 

As Senior Estimator, you will lead and manage the estimating process across major rail and heavy civils schemes, working closely with bid, commercial, planning and delivery teams. You will be responsible for developing competitive, highquality tenders while ensuring risk, opportunity and buildability are fully understood. 

Your responsibilities will include: 

  • Leading the preparation of tenders for rail, structures and heavy civils projects valued between £20m and £150m 
  • Taking full ownership of estimating from early contractor involvement through to final submission 
  • Reviewing contract documents, drawings and specifications to develop accurate cost plans and estimates 
  • Managing and coordinating input from planners, engineers, commercial and delivery teams 
  • Preparing detailed pricing, rate buildups and tender submissions 
  • Identifying and managing commercial risk, opportunity and value engineering solutions 
  • Engaging with supply chain partners, analysing subcontractor and supplier quotations 
  • Supporting bid strategy, commercials and tender interviews with senior leadership 
  • Contributing to preconstruction planning and handover into delivery teams 

About You 

  • Strong experience as a Senior or Principal Estimator within the rail and heavy civils sector 
  • Proven track record delivering highvalue rail infrastructure tenders 
  • Solid understanding of construction methodology, sequencing and cost drivers 
  • Experienced with complex subcontract procurement and supply chain engagement 
  • Commercially astute, detailfocused and confident working at senior level 
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to influence key stakeholders 
  • Comfortable working in a 5day onsite environment, with flexibility as required
