Location: Bristol & Swindon (site‑based with flexible working)
Salary: £50,000 – £70,000 + vehicle allowance
Contracts: NEC & JCT
Working Pattern: Flexible working supported
We are recruiting for a Quantity Surveyor to join a small, close‑knit groundworks and civil engineering contractor delivering residential and housebuilding infrastructure projects across Bristol and Swindon.
The business delivers residential groundworks and civils packages typically ranging from £3m to £25m, working with leading housebuilders on roads, sewers, drainage, bulk earthworks and associated infrastructure. Projects are delivered under a mix of NEC and JCT contracts.
This opportunity offers genuine flexibility around working arrangements and would suit a Quantity Surveyor seeking a balanced role within a supportive, tight‑knit team rather than a corporate environment.
Role Overview
As a Quantity Surveyor, you will take responsibility for the commercial management of residential groundworks and civil engineering projects from pre‑construction through to final account.
You will manage a small number of projects across Bristol and Swindon, working closely with site teams and directors. The business supports flexible working, allowing you to balance site presence with office or home working depending on project needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Commercial management of residential groundworks and civils projects
- Cost forecasting, valuations and cash flow management
- Preparation and submission of applications for payment
- Managing variations, change control and final accounts
- Working under NEC and JCT forms of contract
- Procurement and management of subcontractors and suppliers
- Supporting site teams with commercial reporting and risk management
About You
This role is ideally suited to a Quantity Surveyor with experience in residential groundworks or civil engineering, particularly within housebuilding environments, who values autonomy and flexibility.
You will ideally have:
- 3–5 years’ experience as a Quantity Surveyor in groundworks or civils
- Experience working on residential / housebuilding projects
- Strong understanding of NEC and JCT contracts
- Proficiency in MS Office and QS software (Excel, Causeway or similar)
- A practical, collaborative and hands‑on approach
- Full UK driving licence (regional travel required)
What’s on Offer
- Salary of £50,000 – £70,000, depending on experience
- Vehicle allowance
- Long‑term, stable pipeline of residential projects
- Flexible working environment
- Friendly, supportive and close‑knit team culture
- High level of trust, autonomy and visibility within the business
