The Opportunity
A leading groundworks subcontractor is seeking experienced Construction Managers to join their team on a major port development project in Port Talbot. This is a key role within a large-scale infrastructure scheme, offering the opportunity to take full responsibility for delivering complex groundworks packages within a technically demanding and fast-paced environment.
The Role
The successful candidates will be responsible for the full lifecycle delivery of groundworks and civils packages associated with port infrastructure works, including bulk earthworks, drainage, heavy-duty hardstandings, deep excavations and substructure elements. You will oversee day-to-day site operations, managing site teams, plant, subcontractors and suppliers to ensure works are delivered safely, on programme and within budget.
You will take ownership of programme management, sequencing of works and resource allocation, with a strong focus on coordinating high-volume plant operations and logistics typically associated with port environments. The role will involve managing subcontractor performance, monitoring progress against programme, mitigating risks and resolving technical and operational issues on site. You will be expected to maintain full compliance with health, safety, environmental and quality standards, including the management of RAMS, permits, lifting operations, temporary works and marine or port-specific constraints where applicable.
In addition, you will work closely with commercial and engineering teams to manage cost control, variations, reporting and technical coordination. Client liaison will be a key part of the position, ensuring clear communication, strong working relationships and successful delivery against project expectations.
About You
The ideal candidate will have proven experience operating at Construction Manager or Project Manager level within groundworks, civil engineering or major infrastructure projects, with strong knowledge of earthworks, drainage and heavy civils packages. Experience working on ports, industrial or large infrastructure schemes would be highly beneficial. You will demonstrate a strong track record of leading teams and delivering projects on programme and within budget, supported by excellent communication, organisational and leadership skills. Relevant qualifications such as SMSTS and a valid CSCS card are essential.
What’s on Offer
This role offers a competitive salary or day rate of £325–£375, alongside the opportunity to work on a major port infrastructure project with a well-established contractor. This is a long-term permanent opportunity with clear progression prospects within a growing business.
