The Opportunity
A leading groundworks subcontractor is seeking an experienced Project Manager to join their team on a major port infrastructure project in Port Talbot. This is a key leadership role within a large-scale development, offering full responsibility for delivering groundworks and heavy civils packages within a technically demanding and fast-paced environment.
The Role
The successful candidate will be responsible for the full lifecycle delivery of groundworks and civil engineering packages associated with port infrastructure, including bulk earthworks, drainage, hardstandings, deep excavations and substructure works. You will manage overall project performance from mobilisation through to completion, overseeing site teams, engineers, subcontractors and plant operations to ensure safe, efficient and compliant delivery.
You will take ownership of programme planning, sequencing of works and resource allocation, ensuring activities are coordinated effectively to meet key milestones within a high-volume plant and logistics environment. Responsibilities include managing subcontractor performance, driving productivity, monitoring progress against programme and proactively resolving technical, operational and logistical challenges.
You will be accountable for health, safety, environmental and quality compliance across all site activities, ensuring RAMS, permits, lifting operations and any port-specific constraints are managed in line with project and regulatory requirements. The role will also involve close coordination with commercial and engineering teams, taking responsibility for cost control, variations, reporting and overall financial performance.
Strong client liaison will be essential, maintaining effective communication with stakeholders, attending progress and commercial meetings and ensuring successful delivery of project objectives.
About You
The ideal candidate will have proven experience operating as a Project Manager within groundworks, civil engineering or major infrastructure projects, with strong technical knowledge of earthworks, drainage and heavy civils packages. Experience working within ports, industrial environments or large-scale infrastructure schemes would be highly beneficial. You will demonstrate a strong track record of delivering projects from inception through to completion, managing programmes, budgets and site teams effectively. Relevant qualifications such as SMSTS and a valid CSCS card are essential.
